What A Tarot Card Reader At The Plaza Taught Me About Anxiety And Intention
Part of my job as a travel writer is getting to attend some pretty unique events. So, when Accor Hotels invited me to a pajama party in the Royal Suite at the famous Plaza Hotel in New York City, I was sold. Of course, the space was stunning, and there was a make-your-own candy bar with Eloise-themed treats. But they also had a tarot card reader giving out free readings.
Naturally, I tried it.
Sure, you can think it’s all nonsense, and I always take these experiences with a grain of salt. But what I wasn’t prepared for was how enlightening the reading would be. I actually walked away with a new outlook on my mental state. Here are the cards that I drew, their explanations, and what you too, can learn from them.
The Eight of Swords
This was a terrifying card and the first one I drew. It’s a woman hiding her face surrounded by swords that are just barely missing her. I saw the image and instantly connected with it. As a new working mom, I often feel like I’m just barely dodging be speared. I have so much happening around me that it’s overwhelming, and I want to bury my head.
The Eight of Swords represents frustration, feeling stuck in a rut and seemingly impossible obstacles; Everything may seem impossible or too much to cope with.
Saraswati Goddess Wisdom
While I was certainly struggling, the next card I pulled started to give me a glimmer of hope. The tarot card reader explained that it meant I was a very creative person, but that I need to have more faith in the possibilities of how I can use my talents. Plus, I need to spend time bringing the ideas in my head to life.
While I’m stuck in the day-to-day of writing as my living, I do have many other ideas of ways to be creative and make an income from it. I just need to lift my head from those swords and give my thoughts a chance.
Seven of Pentacles
This card is all about things coming to fruition and hard work paying off. The problem is when it’s reversed (which it was), it can mean someone is taking on too much (which I am). The reader went on to explain that if I follow the path of the cards thus far… If I get out from those swords and bring life to my thoughts, I can begin to manifest my ideas, goals, and ambitions.
I learned that to do so, you just have to focus your energy on those thoughts instead of the negative ones that leave you feeling overwhelmed.
And that starts with gratitude.
You need to be thankful for what you already have to alleviate some of the worries that are consuming your mind. Once you can do that, you can tap into that inherent wisdom and make your dreams come true.
Well, I couldn’t have asked for a better last card. The image also spoke to me as it depicted a content-looking goddess Tara, capable of healing sorrows and granting wishes, walking ahead along a path. She is looking over her shoulder as if she is inviting the observer to join her.
It was explained to me that it’s as if she is saying, “Hurry up with your ideas! There’s a whole world of wonderful experiences waiting for you. You just need to trust and make the leap.“
After this reading, it was abundantly clear that I needed to get out of the haze of anxiety and worry by becoming grateful for what I have. Then, shift my focus and attention onto new ideas and begin the process of putting them into action. If I proceeded on in the right ways, I recognized that I could have a life filled with even more adventure and happiness and less stress.
So, if you’re feeling stuck like me, you don’t need a tarot card reading (by all means, give it a shot). But, you can take the advice I learned from mine and have faith in your ideas, pay attention to them, and you too can forge a path of contentment, prosperity, and excitement.
